This beautiful commemorative 2014 Centenary of Australian Submarines coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. On 24 May 1914, the Royal Australian Navy took delivery of its first submarines in Sydney, the two British-built E-class vessels HMAS AE1 and HMAS AE2, as part of a substantial upgrade of Australia's fledgling naval fleet. Today, the Royal Australian Navy Submarine Service consists of six Collins-class submarines located at the Royal Australian Navy Submarine Force Element Group Headquarters in Rockingham, Western Australia. Over the past few decades Australian submarines have conducted extensive surveillance operations in South East Asia, including collecting vital intelligence during the Cold War. No more than 3,000 of these 2014 Centenary of Australian Submarines 1oz silver coin and replica badge sets will be released by The Perth Mint.
